Jeff115 Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 only have the Gal. a couple of months and I notice some chips on the rear door edges :) I have'nt fitted door trims along the edge as the rubber door seals would be stretched with the additional width - is this making sense? :) How does anyone protect the edges from walls etc. esp. with small children who do not understand that delicate paintwork always comes of worst when knocked against brickwork? Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 ....by opening the doors for them and using my fingers as door protectors. I have tried the plastic strip thingys you could get a few years back, and they caused far more problems than they solved! Scratched the paint themselves and trapped dirt between them and the doors, it was a continual pain so just got rid of them in the end. Things are not helped by the current trend for the so-called rubbing strips on rear doors to finish short of the edge of the door, so even against a tall vertical wall, the first part of the door to make contact is painted. This could be one reason that some of us would like sliding rear doors (!) Guest JIMSTDI Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 i know ive seen some people putting sponge on the walls so when they open the car doors the door hits the sponge and dont mark the doors u can get quite a few types of door strips to protect them now! might be worth thinking about all the best james! HJT Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 I'm with Ivor on this. I keep the child locks on and open the door for them. I can also catch them if they fall out the car as it's quite a way down for young children.I do also have foam on the walls of the garage so I don't damage the paint parking or opening the door. Jeff115 Posted October 7, 2003 Author Report Posted October 7, 2003 No lads,The kids don't open the doors :) (he's 3yoa and she's only 9m), though he did open his M & P seat belt on the motorway t'other day (first and LAST time!!!). :) So it must be Herself !!! :) Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone has used the slimline protectors which go the full height of the door and the effect on the inner rubber door seal? btw has anyone seen Oyster Silver in the touch-up paint (small bottle)?
